Timeline - families in Nottinghamshire
I thought that it might be useful to plot the places in which the families had lived in Nottinghamshire against wider history in order to put the families into context.
The diagram that opens from the lower image on the left hand side shows the places where the family lived against a selection of major events (a somewhat random list, I must admit) and the sovereigns of the time. It covers the period from 1666 to 1899.
It is interesting to see that the family was in Shelford during the early reign of George III - before the start of the American War of Independence and if we accept that Ferim etc = Fairholm then the family was in Lowdham in the year of the Great Fire of London, early in the reign of Charles II. It still feels very surprising to have worked back quite so far.
Gedling was the place where family members were resident for the longest time during the period covered by the analysis - over 130 years - although Nottingham would over-take it in the twentieth century.
If you click on the image of the spreadsheet on the left then a pdf will open in a new window in your browser.
